Student Council
2007-2008 Student Council Officers from left, Seth Bleakley, vice president; Mary Gautier, secretary; Maria Alphonso, treasurer; Christie Pevey, president; Faith Allen, chaplain; and Justin Dufreche, sergeant-at-arms. Student Council is a viable organization at St. Joseph School. Officers are elected through a school-wide campaign and representatives are elected from the classes. Student Council meets monthly and conducts a variety of fun and service-oriented programs throughout the school. Mrs. Elizabeth Mercer is the Student Council faculty sponsor. 2006-2007 Student Council Projects: * Weeding and planting of Mary's Garden * Thanksgiving food drive * Operation We Care * Muscular Dystrophy drive * Ribbons for Veterans' Day and Lent * Wearin' o' the Green The following students have been named to the SJS 2007-2008 Student Council: 4th Grade - Scott Dufreche, Cassidy Fulmer, Jacob Schmaltz 5th Grade - Sarah Ryals, Dani Majeau, Madison Perrin 6th Grade - Emily Buddy, Jake Kraft, Zacary Barrient 7th Grade - Amy Henderson, Faith Allen, Josie Serigne 8th Grade - Mary Gautier, Maria Alphonso, Christie Pevey, Justin Dufreche, Matt LaMarca, Carven Corbett, Seth Bleakley. 4-H ClubThe SJS 4-H Club is back!Open to students in grades 4-8, 4-H is a club where students "learn by doing". In 4-H, students choose the activities they do. They make things, learning interesting new things, and learn to lead and to follow. Here are some examples of what can be done: learn photography raise animals and plants learn to prepare food make a website learn to sew use a computer make a speech. In most parishes, students can: do a demonstration make an exhibit designa a poster participate in an animal show. Anyone interested in joining should attend the first meeting on September 13, 2007, at 2:35 in the meeting room of the gym. Please have a ride promptly for 3:00. The meetings will be on the third Thursday of each month, except April and May. See Mrs. Mercer's Schoolnotes for the pickup time each month as the times may vary between 3:00 and 3:30, depending on what is happening at each particular meeting. 4_h does have a $10.00 fee to join because it is conducted by the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service of the LSU Ag Center. The NJBC recognizes outstanding academic achievement, promotes character and social responsibility, encourages service involvement to school and community, fosters leadership skills, and provides a setting for the development of interpersonal skills. The first service project of the club is to offer free tutoring to students in grades 1-5 on Tuesday afternoons. Honors students will assist with both homework and test preparation. Club moderators are Mrs. Nancy Redmann and Mrs. Lorraine Brennan. |
