2007-2008 Distinguished Graduate

Sister Ancilla Marie started St. Joseph School on her sixth birthday and continued until graduation from eighth grade in 1947. She then attended St. Mary of the Pines in Chatawa, MS. Upon this graduation, she received a scholarship to St. Mary's Dominican College in New Orleans where she majored in social studies. In 1955, she received her degree and teaching certification, and then went to St. Louis, MO to enter the Congregation of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She professed as a religious in 1957.

Sister's ministry as a teacher began at the Academy of Notre Dame in Belleville, IL. She has taught at schools in California, Texas, and Louisiana. She received her master's degree in secondary education from the University of Houston. She considers her best teaching experience as a kindergarten teacher in Dallas, TX.

In 1972, Sister Ancilla began her years in parish ministry serving in both Arizona and Louisiana. Sister is currently ministering in the Lafayette Diocesan Office of Justice and Peace where her responsibilities are largely connected with assisting people in their recovery from Hurricane Rita.

On June 9, 2007, Sister Ancilla celebrated her Golden Jubilee as a School Sister of Notre Dame. Sister has no plans to retire anytime soon because she enjoys her present assignment and is always ready to assist her parish in any way.
