Birthday Free Dress Days

There is a Birthday Free Dress Day designated every month. ONLY on this date may students come in free dress.

All clothes must be modest and reflective of the values expected at St. Joseph Catholic School. Students must be able to perform all regular school activities, including P.E., without changing or removing any parts shoes or clothing.

Shorts (if weather permits) must be long enough to reach the knee.

Blue jeans are allowed if the jeans are in good condition. Jeans must be free of holes. Jeans must not be too tight.

Dress, skirts are to be long enough to reach the knee.

All shirts, blouses, etc., must have sleeves.

Writing or symbols on shirts must be appropriate for school.

Shoes must have a back strap or closed heel. Crocs and high heels are not allowed.

Uniforms

St. Joseph School uniforms (except for shoes) may be purchased at The Old School in Hammond.
The store has a complete list of the correct uniforms for St. Joseph School.

All students attending St. Joseph School must wear the appropriate uniform daily beginning with the first day and throughout each school day until the closing of school except for announced days.

SHOES
All students in grades 1-8 will wear a solid black (NO MESH - NO REFLECTIVE LOGOS - NO SUEDE PARTS), leather, laced, tennis shoe.
These shoes must have a non-marking sole.
Shoes must not cover the ankle.

PreK and Kindergarten boys will wear the solid black, leather (NO MESH - NO REFLECTIVE LOGOS - NO SUEDE PARTS), Velcro tennis shoes with the non-marking soles.
The New Balance Cross Trainer (available at Perfectly Fit in Hammond) is recommended.

PreK and Kindergarten girls wear PLAIN (without bows, etc.) navy Mary Jane-style shoes with non-marking soles which are closed with Velcro.

There is no specific vendor for shoes for either boys or girls.

We hope this shoe choice makes it easier for parents to keep the students in the correct shoes all year long.

HAIR
Hair is to be well-groomed and not unusual in style. Hair is to be of the natural color.

Girls - Hair accessories are to be simple and not distractive. Hair accessories are to match the school uniform with holiday exceptions. Hair may not be longer than the eyebrows in front.
Boys - Hair may not touch the collar in the back and the full ear must be visible on the sides without pulling the hair behind the ears. Hair may not be longer than the eyebrows in front.

MAKEUP and JEWELRY
Girls are allowed to wear one pair of stud earrings in the ear lobe. Boys are not allowed to wear earrings.
One standard-type watch may be worn.
One conservative ring may be worn.
One religious medal or cross on a chain or cord may be worn.
A simple religious bracelet may be worn.
Students are not to wear makeup or nail polish. As a privilege, girls in Eighth Grade may wear very light makeup and nail polish or a neutral color.
No eye makeup or artificial nails may be worn.

OUTERWEAR/COLD WEATHER WEAR
Jacket - lined solid navy blue hooded nylon jacket imprinted with school logo.
Sweatshirt - wold navy blue sweatshirt imprinted with the school logo - with or without hood.
Sweaters - solid navy blue, button front.
New for 2014-2015 - navy blue full zip fleece jacket with logo on left chest.
NO OTHER OUTERWEAR WILL BE ALLOWED TO BE WORN IN THE CLASSROOMS OR HALLWAYS.
Girls may wear white or navy blue tights during cold weather. They may also wear navy blue leggings (not sweat pants) with crew socks during cold weather.

FORMAL UNIFORMS - GIRLS

Grades PreK-Fourth:
blue plaid jumper (length should be to the knee)
white broadcloth blouse with school monogram and pointed collar in either long or short sleeves
navy blue shorts
white crew socks (mid-calf length, no lace)
an optional plain white t-shirt with no writing may be worn beneath the uniform blouse
Girls may wear white or navy blue tights during cold weather. They may also wear navy blue leggings (not sweat pants) with crew socks during cold weather.

Grades Fifth-Eighth
blue plaid skirt (length should be to the knee)
white oxford blouse with school monogram and buttoned-down collar in either long or short sleeves
navy blue shorts
white crew socks (mid-calf length, no lace)
an optional plain white t-shirt with no writing may be worn beneath the uniform blouse
Girls may wear white or navy blue tights during cold weather. They may also wear navy blue leggings (not sweat pants) with crew socks during cold weather.

FORMAL UNIFORMS - BOYS

Grades PreK-K
long or short gray twill pants (elastic waist encouraged)
plain, leather, solid black or brown belt with simple buckle (if belt loops are on pants)
navy polo blue shirt with school emblem printed on the left front
white crew socks (mid-calf length)
an optional plain white t-shirt with no writing may be worn beneath the uniform shirt
Note - The shorts option may only be worn prior to November 15 and after March 15.

Grades First-Eighth
long or short gray twill pants
plain, leather, solid black or brown belt with simple buckle (if belt loops are on pants)
navy polo blue shirt with school emblem printed on the left front
white crew socks (mid-calf length)
an optional plain white t-shirt with no writing may be worn beneath the uniform shirt

SPIRIT DAY UNIFORMS - BOYS & GIRLS
Students may wear spirit dress each Friday and on some other designated days.
