From the Principal

Dear Parents,

Over the past few weeks I have addressed two issues that are closely related: student absenteeism and the method the school is providing to make up work that is not completed because students miss classes. In this same context and at the beginning of a new year, I cannot impress enough upon you as parents how necessary it is to make homework and studies important to your children. Habits are formed in grade school starting as young as preschool and kindergarten that will serve them a lifetime.

In giving homework and projects and engaging students in their studies, teachers at St. Joseph teach responsibility. Students on their part learn discipline. They learn that much satisfaction and feelings of accomplishment can result from successful completion of assigned tasks. The years go quickly and children who learn discipline and who work hard at their studies in elementary school continue to do so in high school and college. They become successful adults who contribute to society in positive ways. The habits are formed early. The values must be taught early.

Make your children’s schooling important. Support them in every way and you will reap the rewards as they grow and succeed throughout the years.

—Dr. Gerard Toups

Home & School Notes

This is a reminder.

The Home and School Association will hold a fun-filled, hands-on Family Science Night on Friday, February 6, in the school gym from 7:00-8:30.

The evening is at no cost, but we do need pre-registration in order to prepare the needed supplies for the evening. A registration form is attached to today’s packet.

We should have it returned to the school office by Monday, January 26, if you plan to attend. Please note that all children MUST be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. We hope to see you there!

SJS Open House

If you have friends, neighbors or relatives who might be interested in sending their children (or grandchildren) to St. Joseph School, please provide us with their names and addresses on the attached flyer so that we may send them an invitation to our Open House on February 16.

We are especially looking for students entering grades preK, kindergarten and first.
Prospective parents will be able to see classes in session, meet and talk with the teachers, ask questions, and get a feel for SJS.

Your help in this matter is most important. Thank you for your tremendous support of our school!

Registration for 2009-2010

SJS will begin the registration of current students and their siblings for the 2009-2010 school year on Wednesday, February 4.

Registration forms will be sent home in the Wednesday packet on that date.

All parents should indicate whether or not their children will be returning to SJS the following year.
If your child is returning, a $200 per child registration fee is due with the registration form.
New students who are siblings of current students may also be added to this form. Their $200 registration fee is also due at this time.

All forms are due back to the office on or before Friday, February 13.

Registrations accepted after that date will be assessed a $100 per child late fee.

Any student not registered by Friday, February 13, risks losing their place in the class as the school will begin taking registrations from new students shortly after.

The new tuition schedule was sent home last week.

Tuition and/or loan papers will not be due until May 1. More information about that will be sent home later.
